With awards and training. This is how the professorship Nagares Mechatronics has been introduced in its first public event at Polytechnic University of Valencia. The professorship awarded last week its first studies prizes. Two prizes were awarded, each worth 500 euros: best master's dissertation and the best student record, both directed to last year students of UPV Master in Mechatronics Engineering.

Vicente Fuster received the first prize for the best master's dissertation. His study, entitled Energy Regeneration in frequency converters, evaluates the chances of recovering the energy wasted, for example, in elevators working.

On the other side, the student José María Marín won the prize for best student record due to his brilliant academic career. “You must like it; there must be motivation but above all, dedication. That’s it. You must work hours and hours. In short, work, work and work” Marin said at the ceremony.

Training seminars

This presentation was completed with training seminars. Carlos Valera, mechanical engineer expert in simulations, spoke about the “real characterization and thermal and mechanical models simulation” and Alfredo Perez, Project Development director, gave a lecture entitled “Optimization analysis of the use of thermally conductive pastes”.

Finally, Torbjörn Hallberg, analyzed the “IGBT modules thermal study”; Esmoris Anton explained the “mechatronics integration in an electric car loading module” and Francisco Hipólito García talked about the “Soldering feasibility analysis in electronic components.”

Collaboration with Nagares

The professorship was signed in September 2015. It is attached to the School of Design Engineering (ETSID), and the person responsible is Mr Eduardo Garcia Breijo, professor in the Electronic Engineering department and member of the Molecular Recognition Center and Technological Development (IDM).

Nagares is a family business founded in 1971 and located in Motilla Del Palancar (Cuenca), which employs nearly 500 workers. Its annual turnover is over 70 million euros, out of which 18% is reinvested in R & D and equipment. Among its main customers we can find major manufacturers in the automotive sector: Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen, Peugeot, General Motors, Ford, Daimler, BMW, Volvo.

Nagares owns three R & D centers located in Valencia, Valladolid and Motilla Del Palancar and about ten sales offices spread worldwide (from Detroit to Shanghai, including Istanbul, Moscow, Tunisia and Bogota). The company has a specific division dedicated to manufacturing technology for electric vehicles. In fact, the development for electric car components is the big bet of the company: in the last five years the R & D staff working has increased from 30 engineers to 62 engineers currently employed by Nagares.
